TCL is reportedly looking into expanding its presence in Taiwan in order to further manage supply chains, according to industry sources.

The company is expected to purchase NT$30 billion (US$1 billion) worth of goods from Taiwan, including LCD TV panels, and TV and handset chips in 2014, the sources said, adding that TCL manages its supply chains in Taiwan from China but apparently wants to establish closer relations.

TCL is also dependent on Taiwan makers to produce TV panels above 55-inch as its panel company China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT) is largely focused on production of 32-inch TV panels.

The sources also noted that TCL wants to bump up cooperation with telecom providers in Taiwan to expand its handset business.

Market observers meanwhile said that TCL is expected to reach its goal of 15 million LCD TV shipments in 2013 as the company already reached shipments of 13.3 million in October.
